Interview with Author Devika (Towards Literature)

Interview with Author Devika Das
"The Mind Game"

1)Dear Author, please give us a brief introduction.

I am working in an IT company in Hyderabad plus an author and a theater artiste. I started writing since the age of 13. What began as a hobby, graduated into blogging and I published my first book ‘7 Vows of Marriage’ on Kindle.

2)As far as we can assume, "The Mind Game" can be a mysterious or thriller. Please unveil this assumption.
Not at all. The Mind Game is a Non-Fiction, self -improvement book which talks about the concept of Emotional Intelligence. The book description goes: Happiness, stress, ecstasy or depression, it’s all a mind game.
As long as our mind is under our control, everything else is. That’s what The Mind Game is all about. It is not an average self-help book that preaches life-enhancing methodologies based on complex science or long philosophical verses. The book’s genius lies in its simplicity. It offers quick, actionable and instantly applicable tips that will help readers lead better lives - instantly. The book begins with five ultra-practical steps that will help readers master their emotions.

3)Fiction or Non-Fiction which could be a better creation and why?
Both are good as they require different approaches in writing style. Non-Fiction is research-based while Fiction tests the author’s creativity and imagination.

4)Do you love poetry and at what extent?
Yes, I love reading and writing poems. Often, I write couplets and sometimes when I feel too disturbed, I write a full-length poem to vent out my emotions.

5)If you got a chance to promote any literary work, what is that on your priority list & why?
The Mind Game – I am serious about creating awareness about Mental Health. Especially, the youth should not ignore it.
Reminiscence.
7 Vows of Marriage.

6)Do you believe, writers can create a mind. Give a justification to your answer.
Yes, they definitely create a mindset. Each one of us reads and feels inspired by few literary works and start looking at life in the same way. That’s why pen is mightier than the sword.

7)What was the biggest challenge while writing the book, "The Mind Game", you confronted?
I felt overwhelmed while writing few chapters when I was quoting lessons that I have learned from my experiences. Recollecting those memories made me sad often.

8)What is your next plan to move towards literature?
I am presently writing a Hindi fiction novel but couldn’t focus on it for the last few months due to other important commitments. I would resume writing it before the plot is erased from my mind .
